DEPARTMENT: Development TITLE: Director of Mission Advancement

The Director of Mission Advancement, under the direction of the Academy Board of Our Lady of Lourdes, is responsible for the effective planning, implementation, and administration of the comprehensive Development program and performs with behavior that reflects the Mission of the Sisters of St. Francis.

 Enhances the image of the Sisters of Saint Francis, among congregation leaders, corporations and foundations.
 Consults with the Academy Board in regards to development activities and initiatives.
 Works with the Development Advisory Council in establishing short, intermediate and long range development plans.
 Creates and implements the annual development plan and strategy, and manages development plan projects to completion.
 Coordinates benefactor donations using the designated categories of giving established by the Academy Board.
 Manages annual giving campaign, including cultivating major gifts.
 Plans and implements strategies for attracting financial support from a variety of individual and corporate leaders.
 Cultivates and nurtures relationships with current and potential corporate and foundation sponsors.
 Lead event-planning efforts, in collaboration with AHSC Event Coordinator.
 Participates in development activities to promote goodwill, foster understanding and reflect the mission and values of the Rochester Franciscans.
 Collaborates with the Congregational Treasurer and Director of Communications to prepare written materials on a regular basis for actual and prospective benefactors.
 Manages the Development Office budget and serves as the interface with the Treasurer and Finance Offices.
 Collaborates with the Congregational Treasurer to determine the method for the deposit and accounting of donations.
 Adheres to tax laws that apply to donations.
 Supervises the operation and staff of the Development Office.
 Assists in the identification, recruitment and training of volunteers to support activities.
 Develops and administers internal statistical reporting systems.
 Oversees office files including donor files, gift records, development-related articles, information and pertinent written communications to donors and prospects.
 Receives, processes and acknowledges gifts for the Franciscan Mission in Bogotá, Colombia
(from Godparents/Sponsors).
 Sends tax letters to those who donate to CASFA (school for the poor in Bogotá, Colombia sponsored by the Sisters).
 Keeps abreast of new trends in Development.
 Participates in appropriate meetings and committees related to the department.

Other functions continued
 Other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Congregational Leadership.
 Membership and participation in appropriate professional associations, e.g. NCDC (National Catholic Development Conference) and AFP (Association of Fundraising Professionals)

 Must pass a background investigation, including a criminal history investigation.
 Bachelor’s degree in Business Management, Communication or related field.
 Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in development for a non-profit organization.
 Knowledge of the Sisters of St. Francis.
 Knowledge of fundraising and/or communications.
 Knowledge of computers and peripherals.
 Knowledge of word processing and data base management software.
 Excellent organizational skills.
 Strong interpersonal and administrative skills.
 Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality.
 Ability to communicate to various groups with excellent oral and written skills.
 Ability to work independently and as a team player.
 Ability to approach people in a manner which creates harmony and promotes cooperation.
 Extended periods of standing, walking, sitting may be required.
 Work requires use of computer keyboard and mouse.
 Work requires a large extent of verbal communication.
 Generally 32 hours per week, requiring flexible work schedule as needed.
 Position may entail evenings or weekend activities as needed.
 Occasional travel related to the position and/or to meet actual and potential benefactors may be required.
ACCOUNTABILITY: Reports to the Office of the Treasurer (or Associate Minister)
